| Warmcel cellulose (recycled newspaper) insulation Warmcel 100 is natural cellulose fibre loose fill insulation for lofts, made from recycled newspaper. Natural mineral additives make it insect, rodent, and fire resistant (you cannot set fire to it even with a blowtorch). Warmcel has excellent thermal insulation properties, with a k value of 0.035 (similar to sheep's wool and glass fibre/mineral wool). Examples of U values are: 100mm thickness, U=0.35, 200mm U=0.175, 250mm U=0.14, 300mm U=0.12.
Designed as a DIY insulation material (you just tip it out of the bags onto the loft floor) Warmcel is non toxic and non irritant, though a dust mask is recommended during installation. Warmcel complies with BS5803 (loft insulation properties) and BS5803 (fire resistance).
Coverage: each bag weighs 8kg and contains a quarter of a cubic metre. So four bags (one cubic metre) would cover ten square metres of loft floor to a depth of 100mm, or five square metres to a depth of 200mm, or four square metres to a depth of 250mm etc. To meet the current building regulations for a new house, you would require a depth of 225mm of Warmcel. Our recommendation for new and old houses would be to make the loft insulation as deep as you have space for and can afford! Each delivery comes with an installation guidance leaflet and a polythene collar to fix round your loft hatch to stop the Warmcell from falling down it.
[For vertical surfaces (e.g. inside the walls of a timber framed building) a similar product, Warmcel 500, is blown in by a professional installer - contact Pen y Coed Construction, 01938 500643.]
