An inspiring and illuminating weekend to get you started on the road to understanding modern herbal medicine. The aim of this weekend is to offer an intensive introduction to the healing power of plants in a most beautiful setting under expert guidance. Course tutor, Max Drake, is a practising medical herbalist and teacher with a busy practice in Central Bristol.

The course will involve practical work with herbs, tasting and getting fully immersed in the subtle depths and nuances of several of our most useful indigenous plants, with the main emphasis being on showing you how to use herbs as part of a holistic approach to healthcare.

Areas covered include:

  • holistic practice: seeing herbal medicine as permaculture applied to health
  • how to experience herbs and learn their properties through direct perception
  • herbal pharmacy: plant identification, rules of harvesting. Herbal preparations
  • kitchen pharmacy: practical use of herbs on a small scale; techniques and applications
