On this course you will work through the process from used vegetable oil to finished product, making your own small batch of biodiesel in one day.

You will learn:

  • The principles of bio-fuel production.
  • How to deal with different types of used vegetable oil that can be used in bio-diesel.
  • How to address the problems involved in all year round production.
  • How to deal with by-products of processing and what these can be used for.
  • How to wash and dry fuel ready for vehicle use.
  • How to titrate used vegetable oil to enable you to use the correct amount of sodium hydroxide and methanol.
  • How to de-water oil before processing.
  • Where and how to collect used vegetable oil.
  • About using different types of processors and the costs involved.
  • How the Goldenray processor works.
  • How to work in a safe environment and deal with the risks involved in processing.

The tutor is Tim Moore, a qualified teacher with an engineering background and degree in Environmental Science. He has been making his own fuel for over two years.
