one-day course

peg loom weaving

venue: Centre of the Earth, Birmingham

This course is run by Jane Meredith, weaver, spinner and dyer extraordinaire.

Using natural fleece from a variety of different sheep, as well as plant-dyed wool, you will weave a seat mat or wall hanging on a peg loom. These looms are hand made, many from beautiful woods. Using a jute or cotton warp, you will learn the basics of how to weave in a simple and meditative way. No previous experience is necessary.

Jane will also demonstrate some spinning techniques, give a slide show (if there is time) and talk about woolly things.

All the materials are provided and inclusive in the course fee. At the end of the day you will have a beautiful and valuable handmade piece which could make a lovely gift.

Jane can provide fleece at about £1-1.50 per lb, and peg looms at £1 a hole (a little extra if it is a good wood).
