one-day course

living willow seat

location: nr Haywards Heath, Sussex

Create a living willow seat for your garden, to your own design.

Weave a hood, arms and back support, and have a living seat. Plant the seat with turf or  chamomile....or use an oak slab with bark mulch.  Be sure to have somewhere to plant it though!

Finished seats are approx 6’ high x 20” in diameter, and you’ll need to be able to get them home, though they will fit in most estate and hatch-back cars.

Living Willow Structures require minimal maintenance. They can be planted once the leaves have dropped off the willow (normally November) and before the willow starts growing again at the beginning of April.

They require a clear, open site with minimal competition from large trees. They are planted into soil or turf - and need to be clear of drains etc.

What a wonderful gift to your household for you all to enjoy for many years to come.  You can order more materials off John to make more for yourself and friends at home.

By spending time around a fire in the woods with a smallish group of like-minded people, working with gathered plant materials in various ways, we can find connection to ourselves as well as to the natural world around us. Taking time out of our normal daily lives in this way allows space for reflection and gives us the possibility of deep nourishment, appreciation and an opportunity to touch into a sense of the interconnectedness of life; we also create beautiful, useful objects and develop valuable, practical skills.

We are inspired by traditional wisdom and knowledge in the ways we work with nature and natural materials. We harvest what we need with respect and sensitivity.
