This eight-week course (Wednesday evenings) is suitable for those who have completed the Fundamental skills (milking stool) course that I run or who have gained experience through a similar course, please check if you arent sure. The tutor is experienced woodworker, Tom Trimmins. The atmosphere is friendly and informal and you will get lots of time to talk ask for help because of the small class size (6 people). Everyone works at different paces and I take this into account so dont worry about being left behind or anything like that. Similarly, if you turn out to be a genius woodworker then you can spend more time pimping up your work with carving etc. You will make a dovetailed cabinet/box from reclaimed Tulipwood with a hinged lid. Tulip wood is light in colour and a much under-rated material which is usually just painted but I always think it looks quite attractive bare. The dovetail joint is a very finely made and very strong way to join wood which requires good accuracy. It is usually used for drawers and carcass construction. You will need to cut four to make the box so hopefully this repetition will give you the chance to learn from your mistakes! The lid of the box will be a type of mortice and tenon frame with a birch ply panel. The mortice and tenon joint is used
everywhere, in doors, tables, beds and is a staple joint that I use every week. dates: see 'book online' below
