location: Llanidloes, Powys, WalesFramed baskets are some of the most exciting baskets to construct in their freedom of design and tradition of using fresh materials. This weekend is suitable for beginners or basket makers with some experience. It will start with a short introduction to the history of framed basket making. On the first day you will make a simple framed basket with ribs such as a potato picker or egg collecting basket. On the second, a Russian bilberry picker with roped willow base and scallomed sides. Framed or 'gypsy' baskets are well suited to the use of 'green' materials and you will have the chance to include some raw hedgerow materials such as honeysuckle and bramble in your basket. Tutor Kevin Blockley has been an archaeologist since 1970 and director of Cambrian Archaeological Projects since 1992. He has had a long standing interest in basket making and has sold and exhibited his work in the local area. Accommodation on the farm is in shared yurts (with beds)! It's simple, comfortable and beautiful but not luxurious or en-suite. If you have problems with mobility or need a single room please let us know. It is also possible to bring your own tent for £6 per person per night (pay on the weekend). Accommodation is free on Sunday evening if you need it. dates: see 'book online' below
