two-day course

making round baskets

location: Llanidloes, Powys, Wales

In this two day workshop you will make two round baskets. On the first day Kevin will give an illustrated introduction to willow baskets, the growing and processing of willow and the varieties of basket making willow available. On the first day you will make a simple round basket, looking at how a basket is formed and woven. Different weaving patterns will be explored.

On the second day you will make a further round basket, consolidating on the techniques you have learnt in the first day, and look at different methods of finishing rims and handles

Tutor Kevin Blockley has been an archaeologist since 1974 and director of Cambrian Archaeological Projects since 1992. He has had a long standing interest in basket making and has sold and exhibited his work in the local area.
