one-day course

natural dyes

venue: Low Luckens Farm, Cumbria

Spend the day at Low Luckens with Joyce Woodcock, an experienced weaver and natural dyer with an MA in Contemporary Applied Art focused on the sustainable use of natural dyes in the 21st century. No prior knowledge is required so beginners and novices are welcome.

Workshop participants will learn about the history and traditions of natural dyes.  They will explore through different plants the range of lovely colours obtainable and how they can be fixed to wool, silk, cotton or linen either on their own or through the use of mordants.

Participants will learn about the processes involved so that they can work in both a sustainable and an artistic way. We guarantee you will come away with your head brimming with ideas, and also with lots of samples and a finished item.

Accommodation is available at Low Luckens from £12-15 per night, please enquire at the time of booking. Courses must be booked beforehand; accommodation can be paid on arrival.
