Participants will learn how to use crushed recycled glass bottles and window glass to create sun-catchers or tea light holders using the ancient technique of pâte-de-verre, which involves making a paste from crushed glass and an organic binder. This is then applied in thin layers to the walls of a refractory mould before being fired at temperatures between 700 and 800°C. This technique dates back to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, but was resurrected in the late 19th century by French masters such as Argy-Rousseau and Amalric Walter. Participants will be able to select from a range of pre-prepared moulds and crushed coloured glass to create sun-catchers or tea light holders. These will be taken away at the end of the day to be fired and posted to you once cool. All materials, equipment and postage are included in the cost of the course. Accommodation is available at Low Luckens from £12-15 per night, please enquire at the time of booking. Courses must be booked beforehand; accommodation can be paid on arrival.more on jewellery-making more on waste & recycling
