residential weekend course

foraging for food & herbs

venue: the Middlewood Trust, Lancashire

Experience a weekend of foraging, preparing and preserving wild plant foods and herbs for health and well-being.

From the abundance of plants available in springtime, learn to forage and use edible plants, many which you may consider to be weeds, as foods and tonic remedies which can enhance your health after the winter months.

Plants that we would expect to harvest in May (depending on the vagaries of the British weather) include many of nutrient-rich spring plants with green foliage e.g. dandelion, nettle, ransoms, cleavers and plantain. Other possibilities are some springtime flowers, as well as blossoms of some native shrubs such as hawthorn and blackthorn.

Please note: this course will not include mushroom identification.

Join us for a highly informative and practical weekend course including:

  • walks with plant identification
  • wild-crafting of plants for use as foods, for immediate use and preserving
  • how we can use simple plants to strengthen our own health
  • making of simple yet powerful remedies from herbs found at this time of year to build the body’s strengthen after winter
