family bushcraft day


location: Moidart, Highland

This course is a great introduction day to bushcraft for families, particularly as a first step if you are not sure if you want to stay overnight. Participants will learn fun bushcraft skills together in a beautiful woodland environment. Firelighting, including fire by friction and sparking and building a fire, collecting and purifying water and building a shelter will be the main topics.

The course is designed around parents/guardians accompanying their children.

At the end of the course participants will:

  • be able to tie some basic knots required to string up a tarp and hammock
  • learn some of the important bushcraft trees and their uses
  • know how to build a leaf shelter
  • understand how to find water and make it safe
  • understand the basic principles of responsible firelighting and fuel collection
  • have succeeded in lighting a fire with sparks and/or fire by friction
