three-day course

nature awareness and connection weekend

location: nr Moretonhampstead, Devon

This course provides the opportunity to spend a weekend immersing your senses and expanding your awareness in a beautiful woodland on Dartmoor. You will learn effective skills and techniques that can then be taken into your daily life, whether urban or in the country, that will enable you to develop a deeper relationship with the world around you.

We will explore the skills that ensured our ancestors survival and allow present day indigenous groups to live in harmony with their environment. Most of all this is about having fun in nature, and sharing those experiences with others! Take home a tool kit of practical skills, techniques, games, sensory awareness, and other ancient technologies that can be passed on to friends and family to help us all re-connect with the natural world.

The course includes discussion, demonstration and practice of:

  • techniques to broaden the senses
  • ways of moving to blend with natural surroundings, enabling closer encounters with wild animals
  • understanding bird language, including tracks, signs and behaviours
  • basic tracking skills

The tutor Ollie Hornbeam has lived in an off-grid, low impact community for three years. During this time he has trained at Trackways, the leading nature awareness school in the UK.
