one-day
course
brewing beer |
Course tutor is Steven Gibbs of the Durham Brewery.
In these times of high beer duty and economic constraints it makes sense for the beer drinker to produce beer at home.
But this is not just an attempt at cheapness because truly great beer can be made from original ingredients on simple equipment.
This course will be a practical demonstration of how to brew an English ale plus an outline of brewing theory. Students will gain the knowledge and confidence to go it alone.
Points covered include:
- equipment
- cleaning and sterilization
- the brew
- mashing and malt
- sparging
- boiling and hops
- chilling
- fermentation and yeast
- bottling and kegging
- an outline of beer styles and recipe formulation
Course notes will be provided which will give pointers on further reading, websites, software, and purchase of equipment and ingredients.
