two-day course

make your own natural soaps

venue: Ouseburn City Farm, Newcastle

Learn the age-old techniques of cold process soap making.  Using oils, herbs and spices along with fragrant oils to create beautiful creamy natural soaps. This technique allows the soap to dry cure, retaining naturally-released glycerine, making a wonderfully rich moisturising bar.

We combine the soap making with a basic knowledge of foraging, using the plants that grow in the wild to add nature's qualities, unadulterated, adding character without the need for overpackaged,  transported ingredients.

The course is run by  Geoff and Rob, professional soap makers at Calder Valley Soap Co Ltd. The 2-day course will use basic kitchen equipment along with natural ingredients, allowing you to produce your own individual soaps.  You will leave the course with the ability and confidence to produce unique natural soap that will benefit you and your nearest and dearest.

The course includes:

  • health and safety
  • basic ingredients and equipment
  • the use of various oils
  • adding  natural foraged botanicals
  • use of herbs and spices for colour and texture
  • practical soap making exercises
  • moulding, cutting and packaging
  • short history including different types of soap making.
