one-day course

fruit trees: summer pruning

venue: Pen y Bonc, Gwynedd

The course is aimed at people who are interested in learning how to prune top fruit trees - i.e. orchard trees, mainly apples. It aims to provide some of the theoretical background as well as the necessary practical skills for course participants to get started on pruning their own garden fruit trees or orchard plots.

The course will include a tour of the fruit growing areas at Pen y Bonc, including Busybees' own smallholding site and Ian Sturrock's own commercial fruit tree business. The course will include practical tasks in pruning fruit trees.

Please wear suitable clothing for the practical session. Sturdy footwear such as boots or wellies are recommended as well as protection from the weather - e.g. sun protection / waterproofs. If you have your own gardening gloves and secateurs then please bring them, otherwise these will be provided.
