pole lathe turning


location: Sheffield

On this course the participants will be learning how to use and set up a 'Pole Lathe', using green wood, meaning freshly cut and unseasoned.   Greenwood is easy to split and work with using hand tools and is a traditional way of working with wood to make turned items.

On this course participants will expect to learn:

  • Introduction to greenwood theory and how to work with it
  • Basic tool use on the shave horse and pole-lathe
  • How to make finished items such as garden dibbers, candle sticks and rolling pins
  • Inspiration and knowledge to continue in green wood working!

This course will be taught by Dave Jackson who has worked in traditional woodcrafts for many years.
