one-day course

fruit tree pruning

location: nr Sudbury, Suffolk

A one-day course to explain the principles of fruit tree pruning, the use of tools and how to sharpen them.  This will be followed by a practical demonstration in Chris's orchard on how to prune new trees, and another in a different orchard on how to rescue old and neglected fruit trees.

You will be able to practice on several trees during the day, with supervision.

On the summer course, we will focus mainly on plums & cherries but Chris will answer questions on other types of fruit tree.

On the winter course, we will concentrate on apples and pears.

Tutor Chris Heseltine trained in agriculture at Writtle College, and now runs the family fruit farm, which he joined in 1975. He  used to be an instructor and examiner for the former Agriculture Training Board, on fruit pruning.
