two-day course

survival weekend

location: nr Swindon, Wiltshire

This weekend course is designed to test your Survival Skills. You will spend the weekend living out in the woods. We will provide you with the basic food and be on hand to guide you throughout the course but ultimately you will be left to you own devices to survive the weekend.

Previous experience in woodland survival is highly recommended.

The weekend will start with shelter building, where you will be expected to build a shelter out of what ever nature provides. You will be shown how to find and use natural cordage to help construct your shelter. It's then on to game preparation where you will be given either a bird or a fish and be taught how to prepare it ready for cooking. After lunch you will then go onto fire lighting and you will be expected to create a fire and maintain it for the rest of the weekend, cooking your evening meal on it. Th evening meal will be rabbit, which you will prepare and spit roast over your fire.

The remainder of the evening will be spent around the central campfire where you can relax and reflect on what you achieved during the day.

In the morning you will have to cook breakfast on your fire (which you kept going all night) which will include making bannock (traditional bread). After breakfast you will be shown how to sharpen and maintain your knife. We will then go on a nature walk looking at various trees and plants and discuss their uses. You will look at natural navigation, using natures help to navigate our way towards a stream where you will able to collect water and filter/purify it back at base camp. Lunch will again be game, you will be taught how to prepare it ready for the pot. We will spend the rest of course looking at snares and traps, how they are constructed and used to catch/kill there target. You will get a chance to construct you own trap and we will test its effectiveness.
