three day course

long bow making

location: nr Telford, Shropshire

Learn how to make your own longbow using techniques that have changed little since the Middle Ages.

Make a traditional longbow like those favoured by English and Welsh bowmen, who used this simple, yet fearsome, weapon to such devastating effect.

This course covers the techniques required to shape an ash stave using hand tools, and then persuading the wood to bend to a near semi-circle. Also you will make a suitable bowstring and if all works well you will depart with your very own longbow.

The course tutor is David Cotterill a bowyer of 25 years experience.
