country wine making

location: nr Thornbury, South Gloucestershire

This one day course is aimed at beginners interested in making their own wine. The course is a mixture of theory and practical, with an opportunity to have a go at preparing different fruits and preparing brews for fermentation. By the end of the course you will have the knowledge and skills to enable you to confidently start your own brews at home.

Course content:

  • History and traditions involved in making different types of wines, sherries etc
  • Types and use of ingredients - different types of yeast, yeast nutrient, campden tablets etc
  • Choice and care of equipment
  • Practical session looking at pressing, filtering and adding ingredients
  • Fermentation & maturation
  • Blending & bottling

The course takes place in a lovely strawbale classroom.
