green DIY

This is a DIY course for beginners with a green slant. It is run by Matt Robinson of Natural Building Technologies.

The course will cover many of the concepts you need to understand how your home and its utilities work. The green element covers energy saving, sustainable materials and building strategy to make your home (including older houses) more sustainable, and to work out your priorities.

There will be opportunities to discuss your own projects.

There will be several practical sessions, including:

  • draught-proofing doors and windows
  • basic carpentry
  • fixing to walls
  • fillers / patching plasters
  • basic electrics: changing sockets and light fittings
  • basic plumbing: fitting taps, cutting pipes and pipe fittings
  • cutting and fittings for waste pipes
  • fitting thermostatic radiator valves
