    Profile:

    Cartmel Hand Spinning School

Cartmel Hand-spinning School was set up by hand spinner Elaine Ware in November 2013. It arose from a desire to spread knowledge of her passion for hand-spinning and all things woolly to as wide a range of people as possible.

We believe our ‘school’ for spinning is unique. The focus is on learning ancient techniques in a dedicated well equipped environment with an optimum opportunity for personal tuition. Our aim is to positively nurture the current revival of interest in this internationally historic art.

Courses run throughout the year. Most course groups are limited to three persons to provide maximum one-to-one attention. As well as courses we are able to deliver demonstrations and talks for care homes, WI, schools etc.

Elaine Ware learned to spin over 50 years ago whilst at primary school. Since Cartmel Handspun began in 2013, students have not only come from come across the UK, but also from Europe, Asia, Scandinavia, and the Americas

There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
