    Profile:

Funky and fun clothing kits…for you to cut and sew at home The heritage of Clothkits spans 40 years, having been originally founded in 1968 by Anne Kennedy around the kitchen table. And on it grew to enormous proportions, and by the late 1980s Clothkits employed over 400 staff from the Lewes headquarters. Eventually bought out by catalogue giant Freemans, the identity of the Clothkits company was swallowed up by this new owner and made dormant. After a period of 17 years in hibernation our Sussex based firm relaunched in 2008 with a fresh new collection of gorgeous outfits for you to cut and sew at home. Very much a family concern, Kay Mawer breathed new life into the company after graduating from Art School, with much help from daughters Grace and Tilly (where would we be without family members as willing models!?). Clothkits make it easy for you to make beautiful quality, well designed clothes without the fuss of paper patterns. All the cutting lines are printed directly on the fabric in a simple format that means even the inexperienced can make garments with ease. To view a brief introduction onto how the concept works have a look at this video by following the link here. In addition to the fabric, the majority of our kits contain all you need to complete the project - thread, buttons (or any other necessary haberdashery), and of course well illustrated instructions to guide you through the project. And we are always here on the phone with advice too. We have online tutorials for the children's shift dresses which can be viewed here. And if you love the garments but don’t have the time or inclination to sew, we also offer a made to order service through Clothkits Couture. So as much as we would love you to dust down the sewing machine, you don't have to in order to enjoy our gorgeous range. Please contact our UK sales line on 01243 533180 for further information, or select ‘readymade’ in our shop for made to order items. Made to order items are exactly that, and we endeavour to stitch these up within 14 days. There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
