    Profile:

We’re professional cob and cob-bale builders based in Lyme Regis , UK - by the sea on the Devon and Dorset border . We’re also experienced teachers. Our main aim at Edwards & Eve Cob Building is to empower as many people as possible to build their own affordable and sustainable cob house or other cob structure such as cob garden studios or home offices. We enjoy building projects for other people and carry out renovations on earth buildings, but we particularly relish sharing our cob building expertise on our cob building workshops – this way many more people around the UK and globally will be free to build their own homes and share their knowledge with others too. Our organisation is run by cob building experts and teachers Kate Edwards and Charlotte Eve. Kate Edwards originally studied sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts and later ran her own interior design and property renovation company in London. She is also a qualified Art Psychotherapist. However in 2005 her path changed direction forever after she attended a cob building course in Ireland. Kate was totally taken with cob building – it allowed her to use all her artistic sculpting skills but the end product was more than a piece of art work – it was a functional, beautiful and sustainable home. Kate has also always been passionate about environmental issues and so when she discovered cob, her destiny was decided. She founded Edwards Eco Building in 2005 and began building beautiful cob garden studios and straw bale buildings for clients in the UK. Kate soon discovered she had a real talent for teaching others about cob and straw bale building and she began teaching workshops where the participants found her enthusiasm infectious. Later that year she took a tour of New Zealand visiting earth houses and running courses. When it comes to talking about cob and eco building Kate is a natural and she has appeared on various television programmes – notably BBC One’s Inside Out and she also appeared as a thatching apprentice on BBC Two’s Mastercrafts. In 2007 Charlotte Eve joined forces with Kate Edwards and together they bought White Cottage in Norfolk – a 400 year old thatched mud house on the edge of the idyllic Filby Broad. They knew the cottage was the perfect location to run their cob building courses on the water's edge. Together Kate and Charlotte doubled the size of White Cottage with a pioneering cob-bale hybrid two storey extension – the first of it’s kind to their knowledge to go through building regulations in the UK. They built everything themselves and Kate even thatched the cottage – see our thatching page to find out more. Two years ago they moved to be nearer family in the WestCountry and ran courses from the world famous centre for sustainable living - Monkton Wyld Court. In 2018 they acquired their own perfect piece of land in Lyme Regis where they will be running all their courses at their new bespoke cob building education centre. Charlotte Eve is a qualified teacher and her main role at Edwards and Eve Cob Building is organising and running theschool workshops. Both Kate and Charlotte are passionate about empowering the next generation to be able to build their own homes – as issues of global warming become more urgent and house prices become more unattainable. Charlotte Eve is also a professional writer and singer-songwriter. See www.charlotteevemusic.com Kate and Charlotte’s cob building courses – both their pizza oven workshops and 4 day cob building courses – are unique as they hold a genuine passion for their subject, they welcome you to their own home in a beautiful location, and they aim to provide you with not only inspiring but practical and functional tuition. There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
