    Profile:

    • Green Willow Funerals was first conceived by John Bettles, the then Chief Executive to both Cardiff YMCA and Cardiff YMCA Housing Association, following the death of his mother in 1991. It is owned by the Trustees of the Cardiff YMCA who receive the profits annually. The company actually functioned for several months from the YMCA premises. Cardiff at that time had only one independent funeral director. The first funeral was on May 23rd 1997 at St Augustine's Church, Rumney, followed by burial at the Duke of Westminster's Estate, Ecclestone, Cheshire the next day. On obtaining rented premises in Pillmawr Road, Malpas, Newport, our first funeral home opened in July 1997. Just over 2 years later in 1999 suitable rented premises were identified in St Isan Road, Heath Cardiff. These were converted to serve Cardiff and the surrounding area, although these premises have no mortuary facilities, this being provided and serviced by the mortuary in Newport until the Dinas Powys premises opened in December 2004, this funeral home serving Dinas Powys, Penarth, Sully, Barry, the surrounding communities and the Vale of Glamorgan. Since those early days the company has proven to be a great success. Built upon a strong community based moral and ethical framework with clear aims, the company now has three offices located in South Wales, and now employs a staff of 14. Green Willow Funerals performs funerals largely in South Wales but when requested provides services to anywhere in the United Kingdom. We also help many families where death has occurred overseas. The company's aimsSupport and promote eco-friendly funerals
