    Profile:

Jenni has been recycling old clothes into rag rugs since 1987 and so many people asked her how to do it that she decided to offer workshops. She was shown traditional techniques by Doris Tunley, who made rag mats for more than 50 years. The craft has become very popular, now classified as "upcycling" and Jenni's book Rag Rug Making published in 2003 is now in its third reprint. In December 2011 her book More Rag Rugs & Recycled Textile Projects was published and signed copies can be bought from Jenni who also sells tools, frames and kits by mail order or at her workshops across the UK. The kits are for a traditional design shaggy rug (with border and central diamond); a striped rug; a spiral design seat mat; an oval rug (see pic) or a hooked rug of a terrier which includes a frame. All the kits include a tool and instructions and are original designs - you just add fabrics. Once you have made a kit project,  you will be able to make your own designs or make a project in one of the books. Jenni also undertakes commissions.

There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
