Longview Farm is a beautiful, tranquil smallholding deep in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s no road noise and no near neighbours so apart from the sound occasional farming activity, the main thing you’re likely to hear is birds and sheep.  We respect nature and love wildlife and everything on its 8 acres is grown naturally using organic, regenerative and permaculture growing methods.

We moved in 2016 and the site was in a poor state of repair and the house and barns still need some work, but the glorious 3 acre camping field is magical, with several flat areas and far reaching views of Brown Clee Hill, an Iron Age hill fort, Wenlock Edge and Long Mynd. We are a micro eco campsite – you may well have the field to yourselves, but the maximum amount of pitches in the three acres is five in any case.

This is not the site to choose if you want a wild or noisy time! We’ve very rural and quiet; think retreat, not rave.

GENERAL FACILITIES

**CORONAVIRUS SAFETY:
WE ARE CURRENTLY TRYING TO WORK OUT HOW TO BE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE AND THE SITUATION IS EVOLVING. PLEASE EXERCISE COMMON SENSE AND RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE AT ALL TIMES BY APPROPRIATE USE OF CLEANING PRODUCTS AND HAND WASHING FACILITIES PROVIDED. PLEASE ALSO BEAR IN MIND FACILITIES MAY NOT BE EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED, FOR THIS REASON. IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT TO YOU FOR YOUR STAY, PLEASE DO DOUBLE CHECK FIRST. THANK YOU FOR BEARING WITH US**

Toilets : there is a beautifully crafted compost toilet, two private ladies urinals and a male urinal which use natural composting techniques. ***NOTE – there is no hot water or showering available***

Kitchen : there are outdoor kitchen facilities which include a prep area, running water, sink and draining board  and two barbecues for general use **CORDONED OFF DUE TO COVID**

Communal space : Usually from some time in May until some time in September we have a large communal marquee space for shelter / shade where there may be a collection of various chairs, tables and / or picnic benches (2021 update – the marquee is now up)

Fires : It is possible to have a fire but it is essential you use a fire bowl (we have a couple to lend) and that you do not forage or take any wood or other material from our site. We leave sticks and habitat piles for wildlife, and we have various bits of timber around which will be for some building project or other. We may be able to provide a sack of wood and kindling for £5 with prior notice, but please feel very welcome to bring your own.

Children : Children can’t get in to too much danger in the camping field but of course they’ll still need some supervision. We ask you to remember this is a quiet site and while the sound of children playing in the countryside is delightful, lots of prolonged or excessive noise (especially early in the morning) might become ‘too much of a good thing’ for other campers or residents. Please just exercise common courtesy to everyone and remember that sound travels, especially in these quiet hills.

Farm gate: it is essential you observe the country code and keep the gate closed. This is to keep animals OUT – we don’t have grazing animals but sheep and cows are regularly herded along our lane by local farmers and if the gate is left open they will get in, causing (from unhappy experience) terrible damage.

Camping area: the camping area is the field in which Wonky Wagon is sited and it’s a large field with beautiful views. We ask guests to stick to this field (unless using the public footpath) and not walk around other areas of the farm where we’re growing veg and fruit, keeping animals or living, without prior agreement. Thank you.

Camper vans: camper vans are welcome. A small / medium van for two people would be £15 per night – enquire for other prices. Naturally we do not have any chemical toilet emptying facilities and encourage you to use our composting facilities instead

Rubbish and recycling: Due to current circumstances we are now asking you to take your waste and recycling home with you please.

Animals : four legged friends cannot be accommodated due to having sheep in neighbouring fields and pet rabbits running free on site. Sorry, but this rule is inflexible – it doesn’t matter the size of the dog, how much it will stay on a lead or how well it is behaved.

Phone and data signal : most people can get good phone signal and 4G in the area

Electricity : there’s no mains electricity to the camp site

Group events: We’ve had enquiries to book our entire micro eco campsite for exclusive use. Feel free to get in touch and so far we’ve said yes to family (multi-generational) gatherings and walking and cycling groups (and would consider other special interest groups), but no to groups of friends wanting to get drunk and let off steam together (sorry! we’re just not that kind of site)

Prices: Tents are £15 per night based on two people sharing, the same for camper vans. Enquire for other pricings

WONKY WAGON

Wonky (so called because of her interesting roof design) is a recently build shepherd’s hut which has recently come to stay at Longview Farm. She can accommodate 2 people on her mezzanine bed, and two people on the downstairs futon. Four people will be a squeeze though, and pretty intimate! Families with small children should be aware there are steep-ish steps both up to Wonky and the compost toilets

Water : Wonky is plumbed in to the mains, so cold water is freely available

Cooking : she has her own kitchen containing a two ring gas stove, sink and drainer, all the things you’d need to prepare a basic meal and 4 each of cutlery and crockery items. We’ll supply some basics like salt and pepper.

Bedding : as this is an eco-stay, we don’t like the idea of having to do laundry between every guest. That would use unjustifiable amounts of electricity, water and detergent. We will but a sheet on the futons you will need to supply your own bedding. If this is a big problem – e.g. you’re travelling by public transport or bicycle – and you give us plenty of notice, we could try and supply bedding. Our usual charge for this service would be £10-15 per stay for a double bed. **THIS SERVICE IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE**.

Electricity : there’s no electricity in Wonky but if you need to charge a phone we can supply a battery pack for a small charge.

Lighting : we will supply two 70 lumen wind up lamps, the rest is down to you but please see Fire section below

Fire and candles : we ask you not to light fire of any sort (including candles) within the wagon

Prices: £39 – £49, depending on season and day
