Mini Biography

Marissa is a passionate knitwear designer, knitting tutor & gallery manager with over ten years experience in a variety of fields.

Originally from Herefordshire (UK) she graduated from Bath Spa University with a BA (Hons) in Creative Arts specialising in textiles, print making and drawing. Numerous exhibitions followed culminating in a solo show in her home town. After graduating, her first job was ‘Knitting Machinist’ for Keep & Share, a luxury knitwear label established by Dr Amy Twigger Holroyd now a research fellow at the Leeds School of Art and Design. Twelve months later Marissa became an intern for the designer Latifa Medjdoub in San Francisco, CA where they created a line of sculptural garments with knitted felt fabric. On her return to the UK Marissa remained working for Keep & Share whilst developing her own style and collection. Both designers’ influences can be seen in her own work combining technical ability with bold colour and felting techniques. Having undertaken garment construction and assisted with machine knitting workshops for Keep & Share Marissa now runs her own weekend workshops from the textile resource centre ‘Rose Tinted Rags’ and is also a member of ‘Creative Breaks’ which is a community of skilled makers who run workshops in and around the county.

Art Site 3 became the location for Marissa’s own studio and she has been in residence for over six years.

The last two years have seen the launch of ‘Marissa Thereze’ – Knitwear which reflects her passion for both quality and fun stating ‘Made in England and not taking our selves too seriously’ In her publicity. All items are designed, made and finished by Marissa and she is proud to say so. Her mantra being ‘the devil is in the detail’ so you will be hard pushed to find fault.

In 2013 Marissa collaborated with local artists and became the catalyst for the successful Artsite 3 pop up shop which morphed into ‘Gallery 25’ which she managed for a year before returning to her studio and subsequent collection launch.

Most recently Marissa has taken the title of Operational Manager on behalf of the Church Street Charitable Trust overseeing the development of [email protected], a not for profit gallery in the heart of historic Herefordshire. The Old Mayor’s Parlour has undergone extensive refurbishment to the 16th Century building and original plasterwork and Its aim is to become a cultural hub for the arts from 2016.
