    Profile:

The garden has been in existence since 1997 when a small group of enthusiasts turned the garden from a derelict works department into a thriving permaculture site offering courses for local people. The project has been managed by Newground since 2002 and has grown into a community demonstration project encompassing eco-friendly buildings, alternative energy systems, training facilities, organic vegetable growing, apiary and bee breeding centre. What they do at Newground Our Offshoots team work hard throughout the year to keep the site looking fantastic and, more importantly, spreading the message about permaculture. They deliver site tours, support for volunteers, commercial team building activities and training on a wide variety of environmental subjects. They’ve even developed a mobile shop to pass on the site’s home grown produce to local people!

There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
