    Profile:

Plas Helyg is a 7 acre 'low impact' smallholding, where the Lishman family live. We are part of the Lammas Ecovillage of Tir-y-Gafel and make most of our living from the land. Cassandra grows, coppices and weaves willow into baskets and sculptures, and teaches these skills too. Both Cassie & Nigel are experienced self builders, and have already built 2 reciprocal framed roundhouses and a cruck frame timber barn. We are continuing to build our Cob Walled Garden, and 2 cob greenhouses using soil from our land. We have 3 children, we keep poultry as well as Blue Faced Leicester sheep for their fleece to make and teach the art of felt making. We accept volunteers at specific times in the year, and also run residential courses.

There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
