Sean’s been named in The Guardian’s top 10 tour guides… “Travels with locals: 10 of the world’s best tour guides. The best tour guides bring a destination to life with their passion, storytelling and wit. Guardian writers pick guides who love taking visitors beyond the obvious to shed new light on the places they call home…”  Sean is never happier than when he is at sea… by the sea… scouring the foreshore… or wandering the cliffs… this environment is Sean’s second home… Any outdoor environment can be dangerous… but Sean’s knowledge gained over the years of fishing… roaming the foreshore and rescuing those less acquainted with the tides and other hazards encountered in this area has given him an unique awareness and respect for this world… it is this knowledge that he will share with you… Sean sat for hours on end in the baiting sheds with retired fishermen and sailors… while preparing the lines for the next days fishing… naturally tales were told… some taller than others… often you could travel from Santiago to Dar es Salaam … twice… before ‘smoko’… it’s these old stories about Staithes that will be retold to you… Beachcombing is a part of Sean’s life here in Staithes… going onto the rocks just after or even during a storm is likely to bring big returns… if you managed to ‘get under’ the scars first… to retrieve some fishing gear… it is the ultimate in one ‘upmanship’… it also gives you an over whelming sense of freedom…  it’s this sense of freedom… the feeling of ‘nature at its best’ that we hope you will get a chance to feel… It’s very rare that Sean returns from foraging without a piece of jet or a fossil… he will share with you the secret spots… Sean can also name and spot the birds along this coast… so while you are scouring the scar for ‘flotsam and jetsam’… pulling the pots… listen for Sean’s cry of ‘there’s a ……’ if your quick you might just manage to see a peregrine falcon… or a whimbrel… Many hours… days… weeks… and even months of Sean’s life have been spent at sea in one type of boat or another… if you are interested you can see lots of photos of Sean’s adventures… over on Sean’s other website… here

There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
