the Middlewood Trust

Backsbottom Farm Roeburndale West Lancaster LA2 9LL
The Middlewood Trust exists to advance research and provide education for public benefit in techniques of agriculture, forestry, wildlife and countryside management, building, energy conservation and human lifestyle which are in tune with the natural cycle and do not upset the long term ecological balance.

The Trust emphasises low-impact, small-scale solutions to problems, seeking to promote ideas and designs that can be replicated easily by people of all skill-sets, and which work with nature rather than against it, Using Permaculture principles in design and implementation, we work towards zero-waste, self-managing systems which enhance biodiversity and the resilience of the natural world around us.

Situated in idyllic semi-ancient woodlands, the Trust has, for over three decades, provided a place of education on all aspects of low-impact living. We run courses as diverse as spoon-carving, cob-building, coppicing, greenwood furniture making, Yurt building, foraging and preserving, woodland conservation, gardening, construction and natural beekeeping.
