    Profile:

    The Observatory Science Centre is operated by Science Projects Ltd: a company with charitable status dedicated to the promotion of science for everyone. As a charitable organisation, profit from Science Projects contract work is invested into the site at Herstmonceux to maintain the Grade II* Listed building and expand the exhibitions. The Centre is an interactive hands-on science centre which has been operating in the former home of The Royal Greenwich Observatory since 1995. Since opening, this unique attraction has gone from strength to strength and now offers Spectacular Science amongst the domes and telescopes of a world famous observatory.

    With over 100 hands-on exhibits, both indoors Explore the ‘Domes of Discovery exhibition: The Open Evenings are a chance to look through some of the largest historic telescopes in the country (weather permitting). Inside: Permanent exhibition galleries explore Forces, Earth & Beyond, Light & Colour and Astronomy. Temporary exhibitions change throughout the year and cover various topics. Outside: The Discovery Park with its giant exhibits is a captivating science playground. Other outdoor areas investigate nature, water and sound. Spectacular Science Shows are an additional fun element to your day when you visit during the local school holidays. These shows are offered at no additional cost to your admission. Children’s Workshops* cover a huge range of fascinating subjects. Available during local school holidays for children aged 6+. Astronomy Evening Courses* include 4-week Star Search; 12-week Astronomy & Space for beginners; and 6-week Intermediate Astronomy. Day Courses* offer an introduction to night sky photography, plus there is an opportunity for you to learn how to use your own telescope in our Telescope Clinic sessions. Our annual Astronomy Festival* is now in its 14th year. There is a full programme, 31st August - 2nd September 2018 including lectures, trade stalls, viewing through the telescopes (weather permitting). Catered Themed Evenings* for adults are a mix of science, the arts and gastronomy! They include murder mysteries, Science of Beer, music evenings, Comets and Curry, shooting stars and more.
