    Profile:

Hello, I’m Richard and and I am The Witney Gardener. My passion is gardening with nature and our healthy tummies in mind. It’s rewarding to leave a garden with the grass cut and borders weeded ready for people to enjoy. I love helping people create edible areas in their garden where can reap the benefits of organic, pesticide-free fruit or vegetables for you, your family and friends to enjoy. I trained in horticulture when leaving school, but spent my early working years working as a therapist. I rediscovered my passion though for the soil though, back in my early thirties and have not looked back since.

“Man – despite his artistic pretensions, his sophistication, and his many accomplishments – owes his existence to a six inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.” Author Unknown
I live in Cogges with my wife and son where we enjoy being active members of the community helping arrange the Daffodil Planting Days, The Cogges Big Lunch and Christmas Carols and a Visit from Santa in the neighbourhood. I have an allotment over in Newland where I keep hens and grow a whole range of vegetables including some rather unusual ones such as oca, yacon and Chinese artichokes. I also do a monthly radio show called Life on the Lottie on Witney Radio which is aired each Sunday at noon. Please do get in touch if you think I could help in your garden, or even if you are just looking for some tips and advice.

There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
