    Profile:

We are a couple.. Tom (35) and Jacqui (30). We were both bought up in Wales. Tom has a rural / agricultural background, having worked on and off as a general farm hand his whole life. Stonewalling, coppicing, hedgework and understanding wild plants are particular interests. Jacqui was formerly the managing director of Theatr Harlech and has a background in community arts. She is now very enthusiastic about all things livestock, with a particular thing for goats. We are starting to build our dream farm, having finally found the perfect site for our plans. It is a sheltered, south facing slope in Pembrokeshire, with a history of organic management. There is a strong-flowing clean spring and the soil is excellent. We have been given planning permission under the new, Wales-wide 'One Planet Development' policy which offers people the chance to build a home in the country if they can demonstrate a commitment to various low-impact, environmentally responsible principles while also providing for the monetary needs of the household with a 'land-based livelihood' (in our case a tree nursery and processed fruit business)and the production of a large proportion of one's own food and fuel etc. All of which suits us perfectly! We are on the look out for volunteers, we are especially looking for people who are competent, co-operative, mature (minded!) who already have a good deal of practical experience in (or at least enthusiasm for) regenerative agriculture / permaculture practice. I'm afraid we are not currently in a position to offer a stay to just anyone who wants to come and have a go at something new, though eventually we hope this will be possible when things are set up and running. Right now, we are at the very start of the project, working on research&design, excavating building pads and ponds, ditching, swaling, fencing, trenching for services, putting in tracks, building foundations, planting trees etc. Basically, the work we are doing now will determine the outcome of everything else, and we need help to do it well enough to last us out. We cannot yet offer any accomodation so any volunteers will need to have a tent/van.We love our food and will cook two good meals a day for the days you work. Work hours per day will vary according to the task / weather etc. Days off tend to arise spontaneously. Our plot is nine acres. It will (when complete) include: -A 2 acre nut orchard -A plant tree nursery specialising in fruit trees -Around 3 acres of forest garden containing the parent stock of the trees we propagate for sale -A 3 acre woodlot including timber trees and coppice -Mixed grazing/browsing paddocks designed for milking goats -Watercress beds (we have a large clean spring on the land) -Asparagus beds -Large veggie plot -Large ex-commercial greenhouse -Lots of ponds -Wildflower meadow -Small timber frame, hempcrete house Jacqui will be co-running courses at the Lammas eco-village this year (we are next door to Lammas): 7th & 8th of May and 5th & 6th November: Willow baskets with New Zealand Flax flowers. August 19th & 20th, Lammas Family Adventure Camp Further details are available at: lammas.org.uk/courses/

There’s a crash coming – a slap from Mother Nature. This isn’t pessimistic; it’s realistic.

The human impact on nature and on each other is accelerating and needs systemic change to reverse.

We’re not advocating poverty, or a hair-shirt existence. We advocate changes that will mean better lives for almost everyone.
